Who We Are

MiddleCoast has always been built on passion, craft & community. We started as a small brewery with big dreams. In 2023, two best friends - the original brewers - became the new owners. One now leads our brewery, the other, our distillery. Together, they've committed to community, stewardship, & benevolence, continuing the vision of MiddleCoast as a place where everything is made with care, purpose & intention.

Offering a wide variety of year round staple, seasonal & experimental brews, house crafted spirits & a full service kitchen where everything is hand made with love, we have something to satisfy everyone.

Housed in the old Traverse City Police stables, we have a unique, historic meets modern space, large enough to host celebrations, corporate events, live music & more. When you walk through our doors, we don't see you as a customer in a dining room - we see you as a guest in our home.

Deven Larrance

Brewing since 1994. Partnered with Joel since 2009. Poet. Concert enthusiast. Mead maker. Pairs well with bourbon. You can find Deven everywhere except for his desk.

Joel Mulder

Ran his first still in 1995. Avoiding going to jam band concerts with Deven since 2009. Environmentalist. You can find Joel in the distillery, or elbow deep in plants. If you order his favorite beer, you're getting bourbon. Watch more about Deven & Joel here.

Dani Diegel

Administrative aficionado. Conceptualized & named the BWB, then banned us from publicizing the full name. Refuses to karaoke, but will hold full conversations in song lyrics. Much like these bios, she is short, endearing & fun...after two visionary martinis. Read more about Dani here.

Ryley Gill

Born the year Deven started brewing. Refuses to let Monday's get you down. Is known to yell "loud noise" louder than the actual noise. You can find Ryley crafting & sampling your favorite staple & seasonal brews.

Team Lead | Professional Polar Bear

Joe Rich

Part time DJ. Full time fun. Bleeds Honolulu blue, but is a fair weather college team fan. You'll find Joe behind the bar, ready to serve jokes alongside your favorite libations. Unless the Lions are losing, then buy him a shot of our house made agave spirits to lift his.

Events Coordinator | Director of Shannaynigans

Shannan McClerren

Quiet but mighty. Lover of armadillos & gin. Fluent in shrugs & hugs. Shannan leads our event team, turning your special days into memories that last a lifetime. You can also find her behind the bar & serving on the floor. She does it all.

Team Lead | Graphics Lizard

Liz Quigley

Traded Florida sun for Michigan winters. Has won Monopoly once in her life. Might do a backflip, but would probably break her neck. Affectionately known as Lizard, you can find Liz behind the bar or on the floor, ready to make your MiddleCoast dreams come true.
